IN DAY THREE,
IRISH TURN IT INTO A HORSE RACE
by Nate Weimerskirch

Even if the Americans lose the match still not completed when this report is being filed, they'll still be one up on the Irish. But many matches remain before either team reaches the magic number of 14 wins.

APRIL 17, PALM BEACH. The Irish team, lead by Simon Williams and Ed Cunningham, won four of five matches Thursday to narrow the gap in the Carter Challenge to two matches, with Charlie von Schmieder and Richard Powell engaged in a marathon match at the time of this report.

Ed Cunningham TPed Bill Berne in 7 turns in game 1 and was unlucky not to duplicate the feat in game 2, but did come away with a victory +9. Simon Williams playing of the rough Court 3 beat Rory Kelley +26, +26. The Irish sweep was held off by Jacques Fournier, who made two nice hit-ins to claim game 3, winning -21TP, +26 TP, +16.
